Select and Special Committees and Task Forces

Search Pennsylvania House Archives Online | Search Public Hearing Transcripts

Select and Special Committees and Task Forces are created to address specific legislative concerns that require more attention than a busy Standing Committee can spare. These small and temporary committees, created by a House Resolution, are charged with studying a problem and writing a report that proposes recommendations, and often, legislation to solve the problem. These committees often perform a great deal of research, hold public hearings and receive input from the citizens of the Commonwealth in order to help them make recommendations. The resulting collections are often a “well rounded” view of issues that were cause for concern in Pennsylvania.

The types of issues addressed evolve and change along with Pennsylvania’s culture, economy and environment. Below are listed the Special/Select Committees and Task Force Records available through the House Archives.
